The meningitis outbreak caused by contaminated epidural steroid injections could have been avoided. But since the FDA didn’t use its power for this purpose suitably, more than 500 individuals were contaminated with this disease and 39 recipients of the steroids died.
Tennessee officials turned out to show competence under such circumstances. They were praised by legislators for their decisive actions.
