Ruben Jaramillo, a man in New Mexico, is charged with child abuse. Police invaded his house and discovered that his house was an underground lab that had produced anabolic steroids. According to New Mexico laws, anybody may be charged with child abuse, if he\she just allows children to be there, where the chemical compounds or proper equipment applied for production or storage of these banned drugs are present.
When the Albuquerque Police Department’s Eastside Narcotics Team invaded the house, they saw that there was a clandestine lab in it. Law enforcement discovered some kilograms of raw powder for production of steroids, such substances, as benzyl alcohol and sunflower oil, more than 150 vials of the controlled substances. Certain vials had following labels: “Testosterone Cypionate”. Furthermore, police officers mentioned that information linked with prices, quantities and types of steroids had been recovered too. Chemical compounds were in different rooms around the house, including the bedroom and the kitchen.
Ruben’s 2 daughters of 11 and 13 years old were at home, when police raided the house.
It is known that New Mexico is not the only state where the manufacture of anabolic steroids may be treated as child abuse. At least 10 other states have similar laws. Such laws are established not without any reasons.
Chemical substances may be toxic. They may have negative influence on children’s health. It is important also to remember that there is a risk of fires and explosions of several chemical substances. Parents that produce anabolic steroids at home do not take in consideration their children’s health. The children face essential dangers in such cases. This is the first situation in Albuquerque, when production of anabolic steroids is defined as child abuse by prosecutors.

Hamsters were recruited in one of studies published in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience. The scientists involved in the study observed influence of anabolic steroids upon the hamsters. The hamsters that were given these preparations became too aggressive. Their brain activity was changed a lot due to these medications.
The specialists concluded that steroids damaged people’s brain the same way as hamsters’ brain. According to their confirmations, people suggest that steroids are forbidden due to their athletic effects.
